Important: This tool implements the grading scales and formulas supplied in the project brief. Confirm that these allocations and transmutation rules match the current, formally approved syllabus and institutional policy before releasing official grades.

Teacher's guide

This grading console is a local-first static web app. It does not have a server, user account, or application database.

1. Create and manage sections

Use New section to create a class. Switch sections from the left navigation. Rename or delete the selected section as needed. Each section has its own course mode, roster, and weights.

2. Enter scores

Add students and enter each category's percentage from 0 to 100. The weighted total is the sum of each category percentage multiplied by its configured weight. A blank score is treated as zero in the calculation.

3. Configure weights safely

Adjust category weights in percentage points. The total must equal exactly 100. Exports are blocked when a component's weights are invalid. In hybrid mode, lecture and laboratory each have their own 100% allocation; their resulting raw totals are combined at 40% and 60%. The brief did not specify laboratory subcategory weights, so the six lab placeholders start at zero and must be configured from the approved syllabus.

4. Understand the grade

Lecture mode uses the 50% threshold and lecture scale supplied in the specification. Hybrid mode calculates GWA = lecture raw × 0.40 + laboratory raw × 0.60. Below 65 raw GWA is an automatic 5.00. At or above 65, the supplied linear transmutation formula is applied, rounded to the nearest whole number, then matched against the supplied hybrid bands.

The hybrid scale in the brief leaves some rounded values without a band (for example 97, 94, 91, 88, 85, 82, 79 and 76). To avoid silently inventing institutional rules, this app marks those values as “Unmapped” and exports the equivalent as blank. Confirm the missing bands with your institution.

5. Export to Excel

Lecture mode creates one worksheet. Hybrid mode creates separate LECTURE and LABORATORY sheets. Excel files are generated in the browser using SheetJS. No student records are uploaded as part of export.

6. Privacy, storage and backups

Records are stored in this browser profile using localStorage. This is persistent device/browser storage, not temporary RAM: data normally remains after closing the tab. Clearing browser site data, using private browsing, changing browsers/devices, or storage eviction may remove it. Anyone with access to this browser profile may be able to access the records. Export and securely store backups; avoid shared/public computers.

Network note: The Excel library is loaded from a public CDN when exporting. The workbook data itself is processed locally and is not sent to that CDN. For fully offline operation, download and host the SheetJS file alongside this HTML file.
